Foyce makes police report

LOCAL actress-singer Foyce Le Xuan, 25, followed up on her public threat and made a two-part police report on Monday – one against film-maker Jack Neo for his text messages and the other over telephone threats, The New Paper reported on Tuesday.

She told TNP that a man had called her handphone last Tuesday warning her to ‘shut up’ or ‘you will get it from me’, and another phone call from a male voice threatening to ‘disfigure her’ if she steps out of her house.

Industrial site for tender

A DEVELOPER has committed to bid for an industrial site at Yishun Avenue 6 for at least $11.5 million, said the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA), which will put up the parcel for public tender.

The 1.42ha plot with a 60-year lease period can be developed for a variety of uses under ‘Business 1’ zoning. These uses include clean and light industries and warehouse, said an URA statement on Tuesday.

Inflation up 0.7% in Jan

SINGAPORE’S inflation rose by 0.7 per cent in January from last December, due to higher housing, transport, education and stationery costs.

Compared to a year ago, the consumer price index was slightly higher by 0.2 per cent. Excluding accommodation costs, the CPI rose by 1 per cent, according to the Department of Statistics, which released the latest data on Tuesday.

Teen to apologise

A 14-YEAR-OLD boy who caused $3.3 million damage to a mosque last October will have a chance to say sorry to a representative of the mosque.

The juvenile was given a chance on Tuesday by Juvenile Court Judge Lim Keng Yeow to apologise for what he had done, and tell a family conference next Wednesday how he is going to make amends.

Dad jailed for hitting son

A MAN who slapped his year-old son and hit him on the right arm was jailed three months on Tuesday for child abuse.

The 36-year-old former packer, who cannot be named, had earlier admitted to ill-treating the boy at his home on Feb 18 last year.

SCCCI lauds govt incentives

THE Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SCCCI) has welcomed the incentives announced by Finance Minister in this year’s Budget Statement to help companies boost their productivity but it was disappointed that some of its wishes were unfulfilled.

SCCCI was pleased with more funding to support the productivity and training of the workforce, and incentives to encourage more innovation and value-added services in retail, hospitality and F&B.

$8 for dental no-show

BE PREPARED to forfeit an $8 deposit fee if you are a no-show at your next dental appointment with a National Healthcare Group (NHG) dental clinic.

Since last month, NHG has put in place the measure in a bid to weed out patients who default on their date with the dentist.

New property tax system

SINGAPORE is shifting to a progressive property tax system that will mean lower- and middle-income property owners living in their homes will pay less tax.

All Housing Board (HDB) flat owners and a large majority of private property owners will enjoy tax savings of $240 a year as a result of the new system.

Property stocks fall

PROPERTY shares fell yesterday in the wake of Government steps to cool the real estate market although buyers were still out in force at the weekend.

Losses were felt across the board with industry leaders CapitaLand down 14 cents to $3.76, City Developments off 52 cents to $10.30 and Keppel Land down seven cents to $3.30. Wing Tai fell nine cents to $1.68.
